The Interscholastic Equestrian Associaion, aka IEA, is a show assocation for riders in grades 6-12. Riders do not need to own a horse to participate and there are classes offered for every level of rider. Riders attend shows hosted by other teams and their mounts are drawn at random. Riders then compete against other riders in their class who all have a similar skill level. Riders are all put on a level playing field since they have no control over which horse they ride. It is a great opportunity to ride many different types of horses and to test your riding skills! Riders and teams have their points tracked through the season (September-February) from each of the 5 shows they can attend. Individual riders accumulating 18 points in their class and teams accumulating 20 points can qualify for Regional finals and beyond. Because it closely mimics the college riding format (IHSA), IEA is very helpful for riders hoping to compete on a college level. For information about IEA please visit www.rideiea.org
